Unveiling Our Leaders' Lives Book: A New Perspective on European Leadership

At Boardwave Live, we introduced Leaders' Lives, our first coffee table book that offers an in-depth look at the personal and professional journeys of 25 influential figures from across the European software sphere. Created to shine a light on the real people behind Europe's software and technology sectors, this collection brings together a diverse group of leaders - CEOs, founders, investors, and industry legends - at every stage of growth, who share their personal stories, insights, and business experiences.

Exploring the Stories Behind the Leaders

As Boardwave co-founders Phill Robinson and Kath Easthope note, “There is a common sentiment that 'we have no role models' in European software.” This book sets out to challenge that perception by offering deep, personal profiles of 25 individuals who have forged their own paths and whose stories can serve as both inspiration and guidance for others.

Each interview, conducted by former BBC tech reporter Jane Wakefield, delves into the early lives and career journeys of these leaders, providing a rare opportunity to see beyond their professional achievements and understand what shaped them as individuals. Take, for example, the story of Joaquim Lechà, CEO of Typeform, who reflects on the key moments that steered his career, from his upbringing to his current role leading a company that is redefining user experiences online. Or Elona Mortimer-Zhika, CEO of Iris Software Group, who opens up about how her early experiences of overcoming adversity shaped her leadership style and determination to succeed.

Across all of the stories, a common theme emerges: the ability to overcome hardship. Navigating personal and professional challenges that could have easily derailed their ambitions - from financial struggles and societal expectations to navigating failures and moments of doubt - the book brings these experiences to the forefront, revealing the resilience and courage required to lead.

Accompanied by stunning photography from Graham Dodridge, the book captures each leader's unique character and environment, adding a visual narrative that complements their stories, offering readers a deeper sense of connection with each leader, and inviting them to reflect on their own journeys and aspirations.

Aiming to Inspire a New Generation

Robinson and Easthope stress the importance of “looking forward at what we can achieve together, rather than constantly looking back at reasons why we haven’t become a success yet.” Leaders' Lives aims to provide real-world examples of European leaders who have not only achieved remarkable success but have also contributed to creating an environment where ambition and innovation thrive. “Role models are vital. They give us something to aspire to and learn from.” By presenting a diverse range of leaders, the book aims to inspire others across the continent to take risks, innovate, and lead with confidence in their unique vision.
